iTOVi | nourishing habits

Welcome back to Wellness Wednesday!

Today I am sharing about my newest piece of technology- the iTOVi scanner!

The iTOVi is a personal body “scanner that combines bioimpedance, pressure sensors, temperature, and Bluetooth technologies to generate personalized wellness evaluations.”

  1. Electrical Frequencies: Every biological or non-biological thing has a unique energy signature that vibrates at certain frequencies. iTOVi has measured and recorded each unique frequency as it relates to biopoints and the vitamins, minerals and oils from Young Living. Through the electrodes on the iTOVi scanner, these frequencies are sent to the body, inducing a measurable response from the body.
  2. Bioimpedance: During the scan there are 273 biopoints that are introduced to the body by passing small electrical currents through the skin to measure the skins resistance. Each biopoint and supplement has a natural energy frequency, which is easily recognized by the body.
  3. The boy’s response: Bioimpedance relies on the body’s autonomic nervous system which is the body’s central command system, connected to every other part of the body and can, therefore, be relied upon to give us reactionary results. There are lots of ways to measure those results (i.e. blood pressure, blood flow, skin or body temperature, breathing patterns, eye dilation, sweat glands/skin moisture, etc.) One particular way to measure the reaction is the tissue will become more or less resistant to electrical current flow. Changes in temperature can also help us understand how the body reacted. During an iTOVi scan hundreds of frequencies are sent to the body, one at a time. The body has a unique reaction to each of these frequencies. As the body reacts to the electrical current flow, iTOVi measures these reactions.
  4. Algorithm: iTOVi uses a complex algorithm to organize the data from the reactions. This process is often referred to as the translation process. The iTOVi algorithm translates what your body is communicating to you. While running one scan, the iTOVi scanner is actually running the algorithm several times to find the body’s true response.
  5. Report: As the iTOVi scan runs, your body will naturally react to these foreign frequencies and the scanner will record these changes, identifying them as unresolved biopoints. Biopoints are simply parts of the body, such as organs, vertebrae, or other biological systems. If a recorded frequency falls outside a predetermined range, it is classified as “unresolved”. As the scan ends, the number of unresolved biopoints are recorded, analyzed, and compiled into a personalized iTOVi report. Based on the information gathered during each session, the iTOVi App will recommend the oils or supplements to which your body had the best reactionary response. These recommendations are presented in your report, ordering each product by the number of unresolved biopoints. Using the recommended oil or supplement will then help reduce that frequency to fall within that particular range, bringing your body and its frequencies back to its optimal state.

We have all really enjoyed getting to scan and see what products we scan for and what might benefit our bodies. The kids in particular love that they have scanned for their “Ninja Red Juice” and ask for it daily! I usually make them a little diluted roller of whatever they scanned for and let them apply it to their feet a couple times a day. itovi-4

I am more than happy to offer free scans to anyone local- just let me know! And then we can walk through the products it suggests and methods of application!

VitaFlex | nourishing habits

Ok, things are about to get really hippy around here for our Wellness Wednesday. Are you surprised? ha!

Let’s talk VitaFlex. I’ve mentioned applying oils to your feet, because the skin is less likely to have any sensitivity reactions, but also because there are points on our feet that lead directly to many places in our bodies.

“VitaFlex uses the reflex system of internal body controls to release tensions, congestions, and maladjustments. When properly applies through specific application of hand rotation movements and control points, a vibration healing energy is released along the neuroelectrical pathways to an exact point. This healing energy is created by the contact between the fingertips and and the reflex (contact) points. The resulting spark of energy follows the neuro pathways of the nervous system to where there is a break in the electrical circuit. Upon reaching the break, any necessary changes are made automatically.” (Reference Guide for Essential Oils).

The basic approach to using VitaFlex on feet to apply oils is to drop one to three drops of the desired oil on the foot, then use your non-dominate hand and place the pads of your fingers on the corresponding area according to the VitaFlex chart. Leverage can be achieved by placing the thumb of that same hand on the opposite side of the foot. Applying smooth, consistent, strong pressure, curl your fingers from the pads over to the nails. Release immediately and repeat 3-5 times in the desired area.

And guess what, I have a free download for you of a VitaFlex chart, created by Pen & Paint.

Still not sure where to start? I recommend rubbing lavender on the edge of the big toes, right over the VitaFlex point leading to the cerebrum, and settling in for the night! Sweet dreams!

Candles vs Diffusing | nourishing habits

Before you fire up the pumpkin spiced candle or your favorite fall scented candle…please take a moment to read this!

So, if our sense of smell is directly linked to our limbic system (look it up…it’s fascinating!) why is diffusing therapeutic grade essential oils better than just burning a great smelling candle? I mean, since we’re smelling both of them, they could both have the same amazing effects, right? Nope.

Let’s match them up in a Diffusing Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils vs. Candle Burning FACE-OFF to see if that’s the case…

First up, Candles:

*They smell nice, but the scent you are enjoying is made from synthetic chemicals that can simply be labeled as “fragrance”. Many of those fragrances (chemicals) in and of themselves are rated up there with cigarette smoke for allergens. // U.S. regulations allow fragrance ingredients to be listed simply as “fragrance” without specifying exactly what is in the product under the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA). Meaning they don’t have to list what’s in it because they are considered “trade secrets.”

*Actually reduce the quality of the air in the home.

*Phthalates are often found in scented candles and have been linked to allergic reactions and asthma related problems. Phthalates are also known to cause reproductive, immune and central nervous system problems.

*Paraffin (found in many candle bases) is a petroleum byproduct. The American Lung Association warns that when burned, these candles release carcinogenic chemicals into the air.

*Imported candles may have lead or lead cores in the wick, which is then released into the air.

*Toxic chemicals, such as Benzene – a known human carcinogen, are released by some candles.

*The chemicals emitted by some candles, especially heavily scented ones, are similar to the fumes from car exhaust!

*According to reports, almost 98% of the soy produced in the US is genetically modified. GMO soy is not the only problem, many soy candles are a combination of soy and paraffin. Double whammy!

Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later. Immediate effects may show up after a single exposure or repeated exposures. These include irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue. Such immediate effects are usually short-term and treatable. Sometimes the treatment is simply eliminating the person’s exposure to the source of the pollution, if it can be identified. Symptoms of some diseases, including asthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and humidifier fever, may also show up soon after exposure to some indoor air pollutants. Studies have found that levels of several gases such as cleansers, disinfectants, aerosols, air fresheners, and candles average 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors. That means we are poisoning ourselves, our families and our pets inside our own homes!!!

That info is scary but to be COMPLETELY HONEST with you, the busy, uninformed me 2 years ago really would not have been immediately compelled to toss my candles just by reading this. But what I can tell you is that just by ditching my candles and my perfume and switching to a non-toxic cleaner over the past two years I have had about an 80% DECREASE in the amount of severe “head discomfort” that I have suffered from for most of my life. That means less pain, less intake of prescription medicine!

You aren’t doomed to a stale, stinky smelling house if you get rid of the candles!

Let’s see how diffusing matches up.

Diffusing YL Essential Oils:

*Cleans the air of airborne pathogens, reducing bacteria, fungus, mold and odors.

*Supports immune function (aka less likely to get the icks).

*Supports respiratory function.

*Increases oxygen availability in the air (ahhh, breathe in, breathe out).

*Increases the body’s ability to transport oxygen and nutrients to the cells.

*Enhances mood and uplift spirits.

*Many essential oils improve concentration and mental clarity (yes, please).

*Promotes restful sleep (now who couldn’t use more of that?!)

I don’t know about you, but I see a CLEAR winner in that match-up and there’s no question what I want my family and pets breathing in our home. When you know better, you do better!

****QUALITY MATTERS when you diffuse essential oils. If you’re buying the $5 oil from the grocery store you are still dispersing synthetic fragrance in the air. Read here to learn more about quality. ****
So which will you choose?!

vitality line | nourishing habits

So far, we have covered diffusing, topical application, and Seed to Seal Quality. Up next is utilizing the Vitality Line of Essential oils for ingestion. Remember, we talked about how all EOs are NOT acceptable for consumption. I only trust Young Living EOs for consumption.

There is a lot of mixed information out there on ingesting essential oils. And a lot of fear mongering. Here’s my take, I ingest occasionally for quick, strong system support. I honestly would rather ingest essential oils than a lot of the junk that is in many things you can purchase a drugstore or heck, even most processed foods. I feel that it is a safe practice, with the appropriate awareness of the potency of Young Living oils. Do your own research- empower yourself in your own health.

Young Living, in accordance with the FDA, has put out a new line of oils called Vitality Oils. These oils are the same quality of product as the rest of their oils, but have specialty labels that have instructions for internal use. They come in a convenient 5ml size and are super simple to carry with you.

The simplest way to take EOs internally is a drop under your tongue. For many oils, this is a fantastic way to get them into the bloodstream quickly and effectively. Some oils, however, may not taste that great. So another option is to purchase clear vegetable capsules to drop the EOs into and then swallow. I usually add my drops of oil and then fill the rest of the capsule with solid coconut oil. I find this helps reduce the “oily burps.” 😉

As always with EOs, start small and work your way up. One drop may be sufficient for you, or you may need to work your way up to more. Be prepared for potential slight detox side affects (headaches, nausea, etc) as the oils help you body systems learn to work more effectively. ingest-5

Immune Boost Capsules
2 drops Oregano, 2 drops Thieves, 2 drops Lemon

Digestion Aid Capsules
2 drops Digize, 2 drops Peppermintingest-7

Another one of my favorite ways to utilize the Citrus Vitality line is in my water. Drop a small pinch of himalayan pink salt in the bottom of your {glass or stainless steel*} cup, add a drop of a citrus oil, and then fill with water for a yummy, refreshing drink that may help suppress appetite! Peppermint Vitality is also spectacular in coffee or hot chocolate!

Be sure to only use glass or stainless steel when drinking with EOs, as they can eat away at plastic. ingest-8

Another way to take EOs internally is to utilize the Oil-infused drinks from Young Living. NingXia Red is a fantastic antioxidant drink utilizing wolfberries, juices, and oil infusions. It is delicious and I take 1-2 oz every day!ingest-1

Probably my favorite Young Living product is NingXia Nitro. This little sachet is my afternoon pick me up, utilizing essential oils, juices, and natural caffeine. It’s fabulous. ingest-2

seed to seal | nourishing habits

This week I have shared about diffusing essential oils and applying topically. Next up we will be talking about ingesting essential oils- BUT, before we can move onto that, we need to discuss something SUPER important.

There are a lot of companies out there selling essential oils, and these days, you can find them just about anywhere- grocery stores, farmers markets, online, etc. But all essential oils are not the same. There is no regulation on the distilling, bottling or labeling of essential oils. So any company can put “100% pure essential oil”, or “therapeutic grade essential oil” on their bottles, even when the bottle contains many other chemical and compounds to make the oil cheaper to produce. So please, be aware and do your own research. Through my research, I discovered Young Living and their Seed to Seal promise.

There are 5 steps in Young Living’s Seed Seal.

  • Seed
  • Cultivate
  • Distill
  • Test
  • Seal

There is a ton of information on Young Living’s page and some fantastic videos to watch on the entire process. I trust their entire process and integrity to bring us the purest therapeutic-grade essential oils. I only feel comfortable ingesting Young Living essential oils.

I often get questions about cost of YL oils compared to grocery store oils, but when you really understand the process, how many lavender plants it takes to distill and create a 15ml bottle of highly concentrated Lavender essential oil, you begin to wonder how companies can sell large bottles of “pure” essential oil for next nothing. Something has to give somewhere- either they are adding chemicals and compounds to stretch the amount of oil, or they are using sub-par lavender plants to produce oil. Perhaps both! You get what you pay for! A wholesale membership is a fantastic way to get the oils you love from a quality resource for a reduced price!

I had the opportunity to attend Young Living Convention, and my favorite part was watching Young Living’s Founder, Gary Young’s passion for the product and health and wellness. He truly believes in his products and promoting wealth, not just in making money.
